The hearing test is painless. In a soundproof booth, using calibrated equipment, you hear tones of different pitches through headphones and indicate when you hear them - this is complemented by a speech understanding test. The results are assessed by an ENT and audiology specialist, so the test, the diagnosis and the recommended solution are all done in a single visit.
You may need a hearing aid if you often ask people to repeat themselves, find it harder to follow speech in company or in noisy places, turn the TV up loud, or your family tells you your hearing has got worse. A hearing test always gives the clear answer: it shows how much hearing loss you have and which solution is recommended.
If you are insured in Hungary, the Hungarian state health insurance (NEAK) subsidises hearing aids, based on a prescription from an ENT or audiology specialist. ÉRTED Hallásgondozó is a NEAK-contracted medical device provider with its own specialist, so the test, the prescription and the choice of hearing aid are all handled in one place in Győr. The remaining amount can also be paid through a Hungarian health fund, and we take care of the paperwork. If you are not insured in Hungary, we will give you a personal quote after the hearing test.
Being a pensioner does not in itself entitle you to a free hearing aid. For people insured in Hungary, the state health insurance subsidises the price of a hearing aid based on the degree of hearing loss and a specialist prescription, and holders of a Hungarian public health exemption card (közgyógy igazolvány) can receive one free of charge, regardless of age.
